Obituary

Maurice Levey, a Toledo area attorney, died Sunday, September 8, 1996, in The Hospice Center of Northwest Ohio. He was 90. A graduate of Ohio Northern University with a Bachelor of Law, he passed the Ohio Bar exam in 1929. Prior to his practice in general law which was located on South St., he worked In his family’s business known as The Levey Beverage Company which was located at Locust and Page Streets. It later moved to Summit St. and became the bottler for “Dad’s” Old Fashioned Root Beer and for the Canada Dry Bottling Co. He enjoyed entertaining especially with his children his unique magic card tricks and balloon characters and be came affectionately known as the “Balloon Man”. A musician, he played trombone In the Shrine Band and the former Old Newsboys and American Legion Bands and also was a clown for the Zenobia Temple of which he was a long time member. He also belonged to The International Brotherhood of Magicians for over 50 years and was a member of The Temple Congregation Shomer Emunim. Preceded in death by his first wife, Eleanor Levey, he is survived by wife, Elaine Levey and nieces and nephews. Services will be held Tuesday, September 10, 1996, at 11 a.m. in The Temple Shomer Emunim, Sylvania, Ohio. Interment Historic Woodlawn Cemetery. Family suggests tributes take the form of contributions to The Termple Shomer Emunim or Hospice of Northwest Ohio. Arrangements by Robert H. Wick Funeral Home, 2426 N. Reynolds Rd., 535-5840.
